Key Points:
The inspiration for the creation of Soh’s Bar was provided by TV screenwriter Soh Kuramoto, a well-known and highly influential local who is one of Furano Lofts' neighbours. With its concept being a “Bar For Miserable Smokers”, Soh's is very obviously a bar where smoking is permitted! Soh Kuramoto himself is a heavy smoker.
Kuramoto produced the long-running TV drama series “Kita no Kuni Kara” that ran on Japanese TV for 23 years and put Furano 'on the map'. The filming locations for this series are scattered in and around Furano, and many of the buildings that were used as sets have been preserved. You can see them at other famous local attractions such as Kaze no Garden, Ningle Terrace, Café Akanara and Rokugou no Mori.
Soh's Bar has a chic interior that features natural stone and wood. The ambient lighting is romantically dimmed and furnishings are plush. There is an open fireplace and a beautiful bar with an oversize feature window that looks out into the floodlit forest. The ambience is very reminiscent of a secluded, Swiss alpine bar that would not look out of place as a set for a James Bond movie!
Go to Soh's Bar for a special celebratory drink (or more), or to enjoy a relaxed moment. If cigars are your thing, Soh's has a menu for those too. You can also order from a limited menu of food options that includes a Furano Cheese fondue. Obliging, bow-tied 'mixologists' behind the bar will create your favourite traditional cocktail, or serve you another type of beverage from the extensive list of options.
At closing time, or when you're ready to leave, the staff will call you a cab to deliver you safely back home to Furano Lofts, 8 minutes away.
